Reverse Engineering tooling is much more than simply measuring and recording dimensions. To truly Reverse Engineer a tool you must possess the experience to understand its Fit and Function in the system. It must be understood where the critical to function areas of the part are and those features and dimensions which allow for greater manufacturing tolerance. This functional understanding of the tool allows for actual Engineering of the part with manufacturing feasibility and proper function in mind. The alternative to this is to either Over Engineer the tool making it too costly to manufacture, or Under Engineering the part which could compromise function in the machine.
